Daulton Varsho’s big moment in Game 1:
When the Blue Jays returned to the Fall Classic stage for the first time since 1993, the early deficit seemed to echo years of near-misses. But in the bottom of the 4th inning of Game 1, former D-Backs star Daulton Varsho erased that narrative with one swing, as he hit a massive home run that kick-started the Toronto Blue Jays’ rally.

Varsho’s homer was more than just a moment in MLB history. The deeper story is in context, as his shot came off Blake Snell, who had been nearly unhittable by left-handed hitters for months. Varsho’s growth isn’t random, it’s been strategic on Toronto’s end.

Diamondbacks fans aren’t ready to turn their backs on the guys they received in the trade for Varsho. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. and his piña power have built a name for his power and defensive abilities, and Gabriel Moreno is surely the catcher of the future for the D-Backs, with the exceptional play he has brought since coming to the desert. Nationally, other teams will now view Varsho not merely as a high-ceiling outfielder but as a matchup factor in the postseason. This alters how the D-Backs’ trades will be analyzed and how Varsho’s value is perceived for years to come.
