GLENDALE – After getting the start at center in Arizona Cardinals Week 2 preseason game against the Denver Broncos, sixth-round pick Hayden Conner went down with a knee injury three plays into the game. Conner has been moved around plenty in training camp and had some reps last week. After a rough start to his time in Arizona, Conner seemed to finally find his footing before the knee injury sidelined him.

Cardinals Head Coach Jonathan Gannon on Conner’s condition:

“He’s got a cast on so he can’t exactly snap, although I think this week he might be able to snap. He’s resilient, he really is. He puts a lot into his craft. He’s an A++ character, he’s tough as nails and he’s one of the smartest guys we’ve got in that room. His value of being able to play multiple positions and things like that, I feel good about him and where his game’s at right now.”

Gannon gives praise to the 23-year-old, who’s work ethic and commit to the team has made him a home run to the coaching staff. Conner’s injury seems to be non-serious, as Gannon mentioned he could see the 6’6 lineman snapping in no time.

It is unclear if Conner will be held out in the team’s preseason finale against the Las Vegas Raiders on Saturday. Regardless, from Gannon’s perspective on the rookie, it appears Conner has done enough to earn a roster spot for the 2025 season and could develop a real role with the team if an opportunity arrives.
