Do the Suns need Dillon Brooks antics to win? Player preview for the 2025-2026 season

PHOENIX – One of the Phoenix Suns biggest additions this past offseason was Dillon Brooks in the Kevin Durant trade. The Canadian wing has earned a reputation for his antagonizing antics on the court during his career. However, those antics have overshadowed how much of a winning player Brooks has been for the past eight years.

The 29-year-old has been a part of two young, hungry teams that have overachieved to become the 2nd seed, 2022 Memphis Grizzles and 2025 Houston Rockets. Brooks joins a roster in Phoenix that has an average age of around 25 years old and motivated to leave the bad taste of last season behind them.

Brooks stats prediction in first year with Suns:

  • MPG: 31.3
  • PPG: 16.2
  • RPG: 3.4
  • APG: 2.2
  • FG%/3pt%: 44%/36.8%

One of the Brooks greatest qualities is his healthy, as he has only missed 26 games in the past three seasons. He had a career year efficiency-wise, shooting 39.7% from beyond the arc. Of NBA players to attempt 450+ shots from the perimeter last season, Brooks is tied with Stephen Curry for fifth in 3-point percentage.

However, before last year, Brooks only had one season where he had an above average 3-point shot. The 2025-2026 could be a fall back to reality for the 6’6 wing, especially in a new environment. Brooks efficiency will take a slight hit but his scoring should increase to its highest mark since the 2021-2022 season with the Grizzlies.

The Suns don’t have many experienced wings on the roster that know how to score, which will put a lot of responsibility on Brooks’ plate. Outside of the stellar isolation scoring of Devin Brooks and Jalen Green, Brooks ability to play without the ball via his cuts and screens will be the most crucial piece of the team’s offense next season.

Dillon Brooks and Jalen Green could factor into future trades for Phoenix Suns
