In another mind-blowing collapse last night from the Arizona Diamondbacks bullpen, Pittsburgh was able to tie the series up at one game apiece.
Wednesday’s pitchers:
Zac Gallen will be on the mound today for Arizona. Gallen needs to settle down for the D-Backs as in his last three starts he has been knocked around. In 16.1 innings pitched, he has given up 21 hits and 14 earned runs. He hasn’t looked like his old self from the past, and in his contract year Gallen has a 3-6 record with a 5.25 ERA. In his last start against St. Louis, Gallen had a decent outing until becoming unglued in the sixth inning.

The reigning NL Rookie of the Year Paul Skenes will be starting for the Pirates today. So far in the 2025 season, Skenes has a 3-5 record with a 2.36 ERA. In his last three outings, Skenes has pitched at least six innings and only allowed one earned run in each game. Skenes has a rare talent that can shine at any time as he is one of the most highlighted pitchers since last season. This will be Skenes’ first time pitching at Chase Field.

Starting pitching is sure to be the story of Wednesday’s matchup. It’ll be hard to get to Skenes as he has been rolling as of late, and with the D-Backs bullpen problems not getting any answers, Arizona will need to pull out all the stops to make sure they don’t drop their third series in a row.
