PHOENIX – The Phoenix Suns could have one of their players poached from them if they decline his option. According to Meridian Sport, Real Madrid has interest in guard Vasilije Micic this offseason. Micic has a $8.1 million team option for the 2025-2026 season. General manager Brian Gregory and owner Mat Ishbia said change is coming and could mean Micic heading to Europe.

Do Suns accept Micic’s 8.1 million option?
Gregory laid out that fixing the team’s cap situation is one of the top priority and accepting Micic’s $8.1 million would worsen that chance. The 31-year-old’s salary could be used as salary filler for any potential trade Gregory cooks up. However, the lack of production from Micic makes it hard for teams to take on that extra salary.
Micic was a 30-year-old NBA rookie, playing overseas since his early 20s. He started with Oklahoma City Thunder, but quickly was traded to the Charlotte Hornets. When he arrived with the Hornets, Micic was on fire averaging 10.8 points and 6.2 rebounds in 30 games with the team.

The Serbian guard got off to a rough start in 2024-2025 season, and was used as salary filler in the Nurkic trade that found his way to Phoenix. Micic has been battling injuries since arriving in the Valley and never got a real opportunity with the franchise. Micic’s Suns career will likely end without him scoring a single point.
