PHOENIX – The D-Backs couldn’t seem to make up any ground in Wednesdays rubber match against the New York Mets as they lose by a score of 7-1 and drop the series.

It has to be frustrating for Arizona as they just cannot get any consistency at the plate, with small mistakes also piling on top of each other to lead to this skid. The D-Backs currently have lost the last nine out of 14 games.
Head coach Torey Lovullo spoke after the game on Wednesday:
“It just was one of those days that didn’t have a great feel to it from where I was and we just couldn’t get rolling.”
Merrill Kelly started out on Wednesday picking up right where he left off as he threw five scoreless innings. He ran into a little bit of trouble as he let up a solo shot to Juan Soto in the top of the sixth inning, then in the seventh after a Torrens double, Acuña hit a single bringing him home and then Jeff McNeil hit a triple right after, scoring Acuña and ending Kelly’s day.
The middle of the order was abysmal for the D-Backs on Wednesday as Pavin Smith, Josh Naylor, Eugenio Suárez, and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. all went hitless. For a team that is having trouble producing runs and leaving runners on base, that is a recipe for disaster.

A bright spot:
Corbin Carroll went 2-for-2 on the day with a homerun and an RBI, Alek Thomas also had two hits on the day including a double in the second inning.
The D-Backs drop two out of three games to the New York Mets, and will look to have a quickly move on as they now face their division rival the Los Angeles Dodgers at home for a four game series.
