PHOENIX – The Phoenix Suns might’ve found its life raft to help the franchise from drowning. Owner Mat Ishbia claimed that changes are coming this summer. There are plenty of hurdles for the Suns to clear: getting under the second apron, finding a new coach, and retooling the roster to avoid a rebuild. Accomplishing all three goals will be challenging, but Ishbia has an idea of potentially adding a four-time champion executive to the front office.

Ishbia has a strong interest in bringing Myers to the Suns organization. However, the interest appears to not be reciprocated.

Myers on Suns chances to land Myers:
“You’d struggle to find many league observers who like [Phoenix’s chances to hire Myers]. Ishbia is said to have maintained a longstanding interest in trying to convince Myers to return to the role in which he presided over four Warriors championships. Can the Suns actually pull that off? There is far more skepticism than belief in the desert air at the moment.”

Myers stepped down as Warriors general manager and president in May of 2023. Since then, he has joined ESPN’s NBA broadcasting team. The 50-year-old hasn’t illustrated any interest in leaving the broadcasting booth, but the right offer or situation can bring Myers back into an NBA team’s front office.
The Atlanta Hawks were another team Stein and Fischer mentioned interested in seducing Myers to join the organization. However, the idea of a West Coast native-like Myers making the cross-country shift in his life gives Ishbia hope he can convince the former executive.

Ishbia became CEO of the largest wholesale mortgage lenders in America through his charismatic personality and infectious persuasion. Convincing Myers to join the franchise would be Ishbia’s biggest sales pitch since coming to Phoenix and could turn the Suns around.
