GLENDALE – The Arizona Cardinals are in an all-out blitz in free agency to improve its defense. Cardinals general manager Monti Ossenfort’s top priority has been defense this offseason, with big money thrown at Pro Bowlers like Josh Sweat and savory veterans like Dalvin Tomlinson. Now, Ossenfort is going outside the front seven and into the secondary with reports of the franchise signing former Chicago Bear defensive back Jaylon Jones.

In his three seasons with the Bears, Jones played in 41 games, starting in five. The 27-year-old had his best season in his rookie year, where he recorded two pass deflections, a forced fumble, and 47 tackles. In 2024, Jones’s season was cut short after a shoulder injury in Week 9 sidelined him for the rest of the year.
The undrafted defensive back is used mainly as a nickel cornerback and on special teams. Cardinals defensive coordinator Nick Rallis uses a 3-4 scheme but still frequently uses nickel coverage in-game situations.

Jones went to Allen High School in Texas, the same school as Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray. The duo led the Allen Eagles to a 16-0 record in their senior season and a state championship. Now, they find themselves back together in the Valley, trying to bring the franchise its first Super Bowl title.
