Just as ASU running back Raleek Brown was trying to make an impact for the Sun Devils this season, a lingering hamstring injury has changed his plans as he will miss the remainder of the 2024 season.

“Raleek is out still with his hamstring. For that reason, we’re going to medically redshirt him this year. He’s going to be out for the season. No point to bring him back for two to three games when we could use a medical to get him 100% healthy because I don’t know if we’re going to be able to get him 100% healthy this year,” Arizona State head coach Kenny Dillingham said after practice Tuesday.

Since the plan is for Brown to redshirt, he would be able to retain three years of eligibility. Brown transferred from USC and sustained the injury during camp.

The 5-foot-9 speedster amassed nine carries for 42 yards as well as collected three catches for six yards in two games. He made his Arizona State debut on the road against Texas State, missed the 30-22 loss to Texas Tech and appeared in the 35-31 win over Kansas. He has not played since.

Brown was regarded as a five-star prospect by Rivals out of Mater Dei High School before he committed to USC in 2022. For the Trojans, he appeared in all 14 games, rushed for 227 yards on 42 carries and collected 16 catches for 175 yards.

With Cam Skattebo featured in a majority of the snaps, Brown, DeCarlos Brooks and Kyson Brown have seen limited action. Skattebo, already a three-time Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week this season, has 150 carries for 848 yards and 10 rushing touchdowns. Brooks and Kyson Brown are next in the pecking order now that Raleek Brown is out.
