Starting on the mound for Reno was Yilber Diaz, who made his major league debut on July 8th, pitching six innings and allowing just one earned run against the Atlanta Braves. Diaz was optioned to Triple-A after four starts with the Diamondbacks, three of which saw him pitch five innings or more and give up one run or less, as the team opted for further depth to their bullpen.
Since returning to Triple-A, Diaz has continued to impress. He has pitched five innings in back-to-back starts, with the Aces winning each game he has started. In a recent 11-8 win against the El Paso Chihuahuas, Diaz struck out six batters.
After a hot start to the second half of the season, the Reno Aces have cooled down significantly. They hold a 23-18 record in the second half, placing them two games back from first place in the Pacific Coast League They recently lost two big sluggers at the trade deadline- Deyvison De Los Santos and Andres Chaparro.
