Ahead of the Diamondbacks’ series opener against the Padres on Friday, manager Torey Lovullo confirmed that Drey Jameson has thrown his first bullpen session since undergoing Tommy John surgery approximately 10 months ago, according to Jesse Friedman.

Jameson was drafted in the first round of the 2019 draft by Arizona. He made his major league debut late in the 2022 season, pitching 24.1 innings and allowing only four earned runs. His debut came against the Padres on September 15th, where he threw a seven-inning shutout, allowing just two hits.
Hoping to build on this success in what would be his full rookie season, Jameson transitioned into a mid-reliever role for the D-backs. From April to July, he posted a 3.32 ERA, starting three games and appearing out of the bullpen in 12 others.
However, following a three-inning outing against the Mets in early July, Jameson was placed on the 60-day IL with a torn UCL. Initially opting against Tommy John surgery in favor of extensive rehab, the 26-year-old changed his mind in September, about three months after the injury.
While getting back on the mound in a bullpen session is a small step towards a long recovery, it is a move in the right direction for Jameson as he aims to reclaim a spot in the Diamondbacks’ bullpen in 2025.
