For the second time in his career and the first time since 2019, Ketel Marte is heading to the All-Star Game, having beaten out Luis Arraez in Phase 2 of fan voting to be named the starting second baseman for the National League.

Marte was the only member of the Diamondbacks to be selected to attend the All-Star Game. However, it will be the 2nd straight year where the D-backs have had a player on the National League starting lineup, as Corbin Carroll started in the outfield last year in Seattle.

The Diamondbacks’ slugger is batting .287 this season, leading all NL second basemen in home runs, RBIs, total bases, WAR, runs scored, and OPS. Marte’s stellar performance earned him a spot on MLB.com’s team of the month for June.

In most sportsbooks, Marte is 5th in the NL MVP odds, behind Shohei Ohtani, Freddie Freeman, Bryce Harper, and Marcell Ozuna.

After it was made official that Marte would be the starting second baseman for the National League, fans shared their excitement across social media, letting out a breath of fresh air that the fan voting system did not mess up.

According to Jesse Friedman, out of everybody in the clubhouse, Marte noted that it was Eugenio Suarez who cheered the loudest when the announcement was made.
