The Boston Celtics have played team basketball all year and that mantra did not change on their way to an NBA Finals victory.

“It was a full-team effort, and I share this with my brothers and my partner in crime, Jayson Tatum. He was with me the whole way,” Brown said after the Celtics’ 106-88 Game 5 closeout victory Monday.Â

Brown, currently the highest-paid player in the NBA, averaged 20.8 points (44% from the field and 23.5% from 3), 5.4 rebounds, five assists and 1.6 steals across the Celtics’ five games in the NBA Finals.
He beat out Tatum, who averaged 22.2 points (38.8% from the field and 26.3% from 3), 7.8 rebounds 7.2 assists. Tatum also had one of the best closeout games in recent Finals history tonight with 31 points, 11 assists and eight rebounds. Brown added 21 points, eight rebounds and six assists, his fourth game with over 20 points in the series.

Brown’s MVP comes after Mavericks’ coach Jason Kidd called him the “best player” on the Celtics after Game 1.Â
