Spencer Steer and Luke Maile were both 2-for-3 for the Reds (7-5). Andrew Abbott allowed three runs on seven hits in 3.0 innings.

Blaze Alexander and Ketel Marte batted 2-for-3 as well and Eduardo Rodriguez gave up twp runs on four hits in four innings for Arizona (7-9). The Diamondbacks lost both halves of a split-squad day, falling to the Kansas City Royals 6-5.

Anyone’s Game

Jake Fraley struck out to Rodriguez, but both Steer and TJ Friedl stole, with Friedl crossing home for a 1-0 Reds lead in the top of the first inning.

Christian Walker followed up in the bottom of the inning with an RBI double as Marte scored.

Marte would drive two runs home for Arizona in the next inning to take a 3-1 lead with a double of his own.

Reliever Joe Mantiply checked into the game for the Diamondbacks, and Cincinnati clawed themselves back into the game.

Tony Kemp had an RBI single in the fourth and Nick Martini powered a two-run home run to right-center field during the sixth for a 4-3 edge in favor of the Reds. Maile scored twice on both hits as Mantiply gave up two runs on three hits in an inning of work.

As the game was drawing to a close on the bottom of the eighth, one of the most rare instances in baseball occurred.

Jake Hurley slapped a ball to left-center. As he began running, he had an opportunity to run each base before finding himself recording an inside-the-park home run, tying the game 4-4.

After Hurley, Jordan Lawlar doubled and Jancarlos Cintron scored, handing the D’Backs a 5-4 lead.

Heading into the ninth, the Reds captured the lead and spoiled the Diamondbacks’ afternoon.

Hector Rodriguez got an RBI double before Rogers hit the eventual game-winning single.

Locking up the 7-5 victory, Tejay Antone struck out 2-of-3 D’Backs batters to close out a save.
