Sahvir Wheeler had a career night against the Sun Devils

Last night, the Washington Huskies defeated the Arizona State Sun Devils, 82-67. The Huskies are now 10-6 on the season and 2-3 in conference play. ASU fell to 10-6 on the year and 4-1 in the Pac-12.

Huskies senior point guard Shavir Wheeler scored a season high 24 points, dished out eight assists, and grabbed six rebounds.

It’s not shocking that Wheeler put up these numbers. The way in which he did is what’s surprising. Wheeler shot 8/11 from the floor and 5/5 from three point range.

Coming into this game Wheeler was shooting 17% from behind the three point line. So, understandably ASU’s strategy against him was to stop him from driving to the rim and concede long range jumpers.

The New York, New York native made more three pointers in one game against Arizona State than he did in the previous ten games combined.

He shot 4/24 from three point range in those ten games. In his previous six games, Wheeler was 0/12 from three point range.

Fans were shocked by his shooting against the Sun Devils as well.

Wheeler even hit a bank shot from three point range. It was just his night.

If Arizona State, can take any positives away from this game, it’s that it took an uncanny performance from Sahvir Wheeler to beat them.

Washington will be on the road against UCLA in their next game. Will Wheeler carry this momentum from distance with him or was this just a one-off game that just happened to come at the expense of the Sun Devils?
