WATCH/READ: Idaho State WR Transfer Xavier Guillory Trying to Gain “Next-Level IQ” in New ASU Offense

Xavier “X” Guillory is coming over to the Sun Devils from Idaho State calm, cool, collected and ready to shine in the new-look ASU offense.

Guillory emerged as one of the top receivers in the FCS last season, registering 52 catches for 785 yards and four touchdowns for the Bengals. He teams up with his Idaho State head coach, Charlie Ragle, on ASU after Ragle was hired as the Sun Devils’ special teams coordinator.

The junior will be competing with the likes of Elijhah Badger, Gio Sanders, Jordyn Tyson and Jake Smith to get one of the top three spots in fall camp. However, he has no ego when it comes to battling against the talented receivers ASU has.

“Having all of those weapons is just gonna make it difficult for defenses just to lock on (to) … one player,” Guillory said. “There’s so much talent and so much depth too. It’s gonna be fun to play with these dudes, compete every day in practice, just because you can’t slip up. The dude behind you looking for your spot, he’s just as talented if not more talented than you. It’s a healthy competition.”

Guillory expanded further on what he’s looking to improve on going into fall camp.

“(I’m trying to get) that next-level IQ,” Guillory said. “All of us are talented, we know the basics of football: how to catch, run, run routes, read coverages, but it’s those next-level things that these coaches, who have been at the highest levels, the NFL level, and seen All-Pros, can teach me. Those little intricate details that I have yet to know.

He added: “But that’s part of my game, I love to learn. I love to take people’s advice. I’m never too big just to ignore people’s advice when they give it to me. I’m really excited to learn the little nuances of the game a little bit better.”
