The Suns almost had one of the craziest draft nights in their history. According to Marc Stein, the Suns nearly traded former 1st overall pick Deandre Ayton to the Dallas Mavericks on draft night which would’ve included a three-team deal.

The Suns were in a place where they had a deal in place to send Ayton to the Mavericks before talks stalled. According to the story, the Suns had a chance to get a haul of rotational players in return but the Suns declined at the last minute.

One of the big reasons why Phoenix didn’t accept this offer was due because they weren’t getting any 1st round draft capital back in return.
Ayton has been included in trade talks over the last two offseasons but over the weekend, the Suns made it clear that their plans are to keep Ayton for this upcoming season.

We’ll see if the Suns indeed still look into trading Ayton, but all signs are pointing to the big man now staying for another season in the valley.
