Diamondbacks’ pitching leads to series win

Zac Gallen extended his scoreless streak to a remarkable 28 consecutive innings, leading the Diamondbacks to a series win over the Royals on Wednesday. Gallen has not allowed a run since April 4th, by far the longest current streak in the MLB.

While the offense struggled, the Diamondbacks’ pitching staff overall was excellent, shutting out the Royals offense. It was Arizona’s sixth shutout of the season.

Gallen threw 6.1 innings, striking out a season-high 12 batters and allowing just four hits. Scott McGough, Miguel Castro, and Andrew Chafin then provided 2.2 more shutout innings out of the bullpen.

The Diamondbacks two runs came in the fourth and fifth innings on RBI singles from Evan Longoria and Emmanuel Rivera. Rivera was alone in company between both teams with a multi-hit game.

Unfortunately, Arizona still remains a game back in the NL West behind the Los Angeles Dodgers, who are riding a three-game winning streak.

The Diamondbacks will now have a day off before getting back into action against the Rockies. This three-game series will start on Friday and will be the beginning of a five-game road stretch.
